A common misconception is that a translator can work from anywhere; this is in fact not the case the translators at Veritas. Our French translators must live in their native country and only translate into their native language as this is the only way a translation can be correct linguistically and culturally. A translator must live their language and understand cultural aspects surrounding the language as there is so much more involved than just words.
Unprofessional translators apply to us claiming that they have over ten language combinations and can translate in any given sector! Impossible. A professional translator specialises in specific subjects. A legal translator would not translate a medical document and similarly a translator who specialises in poker would not translate an educational or sales orientated text. It is also imperative to note that it is not only about the language or the culture, it is about the audience. Who do you need to impress? Does the translation need to be adapted for your company CEO or is it to be directed at five year old children for the latest Mickey Mouse story, or perhaps it’s a highly technical patent translation preparing your company for world domination!
Veritas Language Solutions specialises in human translation services and cannot stress enough that even if the source text (original text) is put through a machine translator, the text can so easily be distorted and lose its meaning that no form of proofreading or editing can fix it. Machines have little grasp of ‘concept’, so for example: in English how would a machine understand that bank could be a ‘river bank’ or a ‘money bank’ or even ‘to bank on’ something?
