English to French translator

There are many French translators in France but very few are of a high quality. It is very easy to claim that in knowing a language one can translate, but this is most certainly not the case. Veritas’ French translators are the cream of the industry and we currently work with over 350 in this language combination who specialise in many sectors of industry such as medicine, engineering, law, website translation, certified translations, subtitling, publishing and many more. A translator must be educated to degree level or equivalent and have at least 5 years’ experience in translation. They are thoroughly vetted and all references are checked before being accepted. To become a translator for Veritas is definitely not easy.

The best translators are fast but highly diligent and will not let their work out of their sights unless they are completely happy and they always want to inspect the final product if it is going to print – just to make sure everything is 100%. If you would like a second translator to check the text then you can opt for our Gold Service which will give you a second pair of eyes. This isn’t always necessary but we always recommend this for anything which is going to print and of course is charged at a much reduced rate.

We also encourage our translators to ask questions and similarly we like our customers to provide us with as much information about the job as possible as this does make a great deal of difference. For example, if you need us to translate a technical document into French and its target audience (the people who will be viewing the text) will be making a decision as to whether they will be investing in the product, then we need to know this so we can put a slight ‘slant’ on the style and register of the text so it will be more appealing to the audience and seal that deal!

We have even been asked to translate research which involves inventing new terminology, so nothing is too complicated or diverse for Veritas!

There are many pitfalls to avoid in translation and in particular the ‘M’ word. Machine translation does what it says on the tin. It translates by machine. This is not a human translation and cannot get it right! Many mistakes are often overlooked and companies look incompetent. We always explain this by asking a customer how much time has gone into writing the original text and then explaining how embarrassing mistakes can be – not to mention unattractive to potential customers. It just is not work risking your reputation.
